Crouse appointed interim dean

A 25-year member of the 91���� State College faculty and a former dean, Dr. Margaret Crouse, has been named interim dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at 91����. Her appointment is for two years.

Retired professor donates physics books

Just in time for the start of the new school year, the physics program at 91���� State College received a huge boost when a retired professor at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City delivered 12 boxes of books pertaining to the discipline late last week.

Many activities set to help new students succeed

An array of activities both before and after classes begin have been scheduled to help 91���� State College students get the school year off to a good start. Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 23.

91���� State College will offer a rural school education course on-line during the fall semester. It will be taught by Dr. Clark Gardener, 91���� professor of education and a member of the executive board of the National Rural School Association.

Dr. Robert Stack said he loves teaching mathematics, but when the opportunity to test the waters in administration occurred early this summer, he jumped at it. Thus, Stack is now the interim dean of students at 91���� State College.

New multicultural counselor at 91����

A new multicultural counselor has begun working at 91���� State College. He is Aaron Grow, who was born at Osmond, Neb., but has lived much of his life in Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

A 91���� State College music professor recently proved that he has fast hands. Dr. Sandy Schaefer placed third in the “Battle of the Hands” at a contest for drum players in Nashville, Tenn., in late July.

All of the courses scheduled for the July session of summer school at 91���� State College have met the minimum enrollment requirements and will be offered. The session begins Monday, July 5. New 91���� summer session begins June 7

91���� State College will offer approximately 35 courses during its second session of summer school that begins Monday, June 7. Most of the courses will run through July 2, although some of them are of a shorter duration.

Math educator hired at 91���� State

Beth Wentworth of Spring Lake Park, Minn., has been hired to be assistant professor of mathematical education at 91���� State College. She will begin teaching at 91���� State this fall.

Professors to present recital

The two newest members of the music faculty at 91���� State College will present a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 in the Chicoine Atrium of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Society. There will be no admission charge.

The works of Sandra Williams, an art professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open Friday, Feb. 20 in the Main Gallery of Memorial Hall at 91���� State College. A reception from 4 to 6 p.m. will help open the exhibit, which is titled “Gas, Food and Lodging.”

Cuny Table is program topic

An oral history of Cuny Table east of Buffalo Gap, S.D., will be given at the next Phi Alpha Theta History Fraternity program at 91���� State College. The program, which will be open to the public without charge, will be at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the Student Center.

Professor speaks about Supreme Court decisions

91���� State College justice studies professor George Watson said Wednesday, Feb. 11, that he had no difficulty selecting the top three cases heard by the U.S. Supreme Court during its 2003 term. However, he said it appears that decisions the court will be making this year will be more monumental.

Colorado governor to speak at 91����

Broken Bow seniors crowned queen, king

Seniors from Broken Bow were crowned the Winter Magic Formal royalty at 91���� State College Saturday night. The queen is Jamie Olson-Jones and the king is Kevin Neth. Both are elementary education majors and were nominated by Campus Crusade for Christ.

Retired 91���� State educator dies

Services for one of 91���� State’s best-known retired faculty members, Dr. Elizabeth (Betty) Jacobson McCawley, were Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Grace Episcopal Church. She died early Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the 91���� Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was 90.

Renovation of 91���� State residence hall to begin soon

Work is expected to begin soon on the renovation of Edna Work Hall and Wing, the large rambling residence hall on the west side of the 91���� State College campus. As the new year opens, the renovation is one of four capital improvement projects underway or about to begin at 91����.

Flamenco dancers coming to 91����

A popular American-based dance company with a Spanish-gypsy flavor will be performing at Memorial Hall at 91���� State College at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.
