91ÇÑ×Ó to offer rural education course
91ÇÑ×Ó State College will offer a rural school education course on-line during the fall semester. It will be taught by Dr. Clark Gardener, 91ÇÑ×Ó professor of education and a member of the executive board of the National Rural School Association.
Gardener said the course should be valuable for rural or small school administrators and teachers. A study completed two years ago by the NRSA determined that no courses addressing rural education issues were being offered by colleges and universities in the United States. This course will help fill that void, he said.
Gardener has many years of experience in rural and small school education. He worked at the Educational Resource Information Center’s Clearinghouse for Rural and Small School Education while earning his doctorate at New Mexico State University and wrote his dissertation was on issues involving rural schools.
In addition, he established the Panhandle Center for Rural and Small Schools Education at 91ÇÑ×Ó in 1990. The center produces an annual newsletter and contains books, articles and video tapes on rural education.
