Electric car race is Saturday at 91ÇÑ×Ó
Seven teams are scheduled to participate in the 91ÇÑ×Ó State College High Mileage Challenge electric car race Saturday (May 1). The event will begin at 11 a.m. on the north side of 91ÇÑ×Ó State’s Administration Building.
In addition to 91ÇÑ×Ó State’s team, students from Alliance, Beatrice, Chappell, Garden County, Scottsbluff and O’Neill high schools plan to participate.
The High Mileage Challenge is one in a series of Power Drive competitions throughout the state sponsored by the Nebraska Public Power District and the Omaha Public Power District. The Power Drive program gives students hands-on experience building a safe, energy-efficient electric vehicle.
The event will begin with competitions in braking and maneuverability. The endurance race will follow at 1 p.m.
Trophies sponsored by NPPD and OPPD will be awarded for the top three places in each category.
Kevin Miller, 91ÇÑ×Ó assistant professor of applied sciences, said that in addition to 91ÇÑ×Ó State and NPPD, numerous volunteers have donated time and materials to the race.
The event is open to the public free of charge.
