The 26th annual 91ÇÑ×Ó State College Chess Open will be Saturday, March 15, in the upstairs lobby of the Kline Center. The tournament is open to any chess player. Dr. Ron Miller, a 91ÇÑ×Ó professor who is organizing the tournament, said participants should bring standard chess pieces and board, and, if available, a chess clock. He said they should arrive before 10 a.m.

The bands in the 91ÇÑ×Ó Public Schools will join with the 91ÇÑ×Ó State College wind symphony to present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 in Memorial Hall. Approximately 180 musicians will be involved. There will be no admission charge. Joe Rischling is the director of the 91ÇÑ×Ó Schools’ bands and Dr. Adam Lambert directs the 91ÇÑ×Ó State ensemble.

91ÇÑ×Ó State College continues to build on its Alaska connection. One of the 34 schools registered for the annual Teacher Interview Day at 91ÇÑ×Ó on Friday, March 14, is the Northern Slope Borough School District of Barrow, Alaska. Janet Hartman, 91ÇÑ×Ó internship and career services office assistant, said the district from Alaska’s northern coast is seeking elementary teachers.

“Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country,” a traveling exhibit opening at 91ÇÑ×Ó State College on Monday, March 10, tells the story of the explorers’ historic 1804–1806 expedition from a different point of view -- that of the American Indians who lived along their route.

Shakespeare’s "Julius Caesar" is coming to the stage of 91ÇÑ×Ó State College’s Memorial Hall on Monday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. The classic play will be performed by eight professional actors of the Aquila Theatre Company, a group of British and American artists based in New York City. It is being sponsored by the 91ÇÑ×Ó Galaxy Series.

When college students make their plans for Spring Break, fun in the sun at a far away place is often on the agenda. Two groups from 91ÇÑ×Ó State College will travel to opposite ends of North America during Spring Break, but lounging on a sandy beach isn’t on the agenda. One group will be providing relief for Hurricane Katrina while another will be traveling to Alaska to study the regional culture, history and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
