CAV workday set for June 10

CHADRON – The 91ÇÑ×Ó State College Campus Arboretum Volunteers (CAV) will have a work day Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Families and friends are welcome.

Bob Henrickson and Justin Evertson from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum will bring pollinator-friendly grasses, wildflowers and shrubs for CAV volunteers to add to the 91ÇÑ×Ó living fence which runs parallel to 10th Street. 91ÇÑ×Ó horticulturist Lucinda Mays said additional plantings will be along the cross country trail.

CAV volunteers will complete preparation work started by 91ÇÑ×Ó crews, including removing smooth brome grass and developing good topsoil by combining compost with existing soil and grass clippings.

Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, bring water, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, trowels, and should park in the Andrews Hall parking lot. Contact Mays for details at lmays@csc.edu.
