World Champion Bull Rider to speak at 91ÇÑ×Ó
World Championship Bull Rider Charlie Sampson will be in 91ÇÑ×Ó Feb. 21 and 22 speaking as part of the college’s celebration of Black History Month. Sampson, a native of California who used horses as a way to escape violence, will be sharing his inspirational story with the public Feb. 21 in Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are not required.
Laure Sinn, co-organizer of the Sampson’s visit to 91ÇÑ×Ó said, “I was so excited to talk to him directly and hear his enthusiasm about coming to 91ÇÑ×Ó and being a part of our week’s activities.” In addition to his public presentation, Sampson will be speaking to students at the Western District History Day Competition and the 91ÇÑ×Ó Rodeo Team. Sampson will also be attending the Black Tie Calf Fry, the 91ÇÑ×Ó Rodeo team fundraiser Feb. 22.
“Our ability to attract celebrities, such as Mr. Sampson, speaks to the reputation of the area’s rodeo tradition and the college’s commitment to the history of the region,” said Sarah Polak, director of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center and C. F. Coffee Gallery.
