Mary Donahue, art faculty member and organizer of the day said 37 91ÇÑ×Ó art students served as workshop leaders or assistants for the approximate 125 students who attended event.

Donahue said 91ÇÑ×Ó alum Buff Tewehade always likes to bring his Oelrichs High School students.

“Two of his students who had attended 91ÇÑ×Ó Art Day in the past were engaged enough that they decided to go on to college here. They are freshman art majors this year and helped with the workshops – Alexis Fast Wolf and Morgan Red Hair,” she said.

Sioux County art teacher Rex Rodenbaugh said he looks forward to attending the event each year since it provides area art students a chance to see the department facilities, meet department faculty, and meet students studying art at the college level.

“My students are exposed to processes and media they may not have yet experienced, sparking an interest in taking more high school art. I benefit each year as I move from workshop to workshop gleaning ideas from faculty and students. The alcohol/ink workshop by Mrs. Bird was a highlight for two of my students this year,” Rodenbaugh said.

Alliance, Bayard, Bridgeport, 91ÇÑ×Ó, Crawford, Gordon-Rushville, Hay Springs Hemingford, Kimball, Mitchell, Morrill, Sioux County and Edgemont, Oelrichs, S.D. were among the schools in attendance.
