Arboretum volunteers talking tools
91ÇÑ×Ó State College Arboretum volunteers will host a “Simple Tricks of the Tool Trade” event on Saturday, April 28.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to meet at 9 a.m. at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at 91ÇÑ×Ó and work until noon.
“Bring your garden spade and learn hands-on how to sharpen it into a soil-slicing blade. Then join in the spring planting on campus,” said Lucinda Mays, 91ÇÑ×Ó State public horticulturist.
Volunteers will learn tips for care of common garden tools that help extend tool life. Well-sharpened tools improve the quality of soil preparation and planting, and make gardening tasks much easier.
Campus Arboretum Volunteer workdays are scheduled regularly at the 91ÇÑ×Ó campus throughout the growing season. Participants learn horticulture lessons that apply to their gardens at home, while helping grow the 91ÇÑ×Ó campus landscape.
Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear gloves and a hat and bring tools and a water bottle.
