Services for 91ÇÑ×Ó telecommunications technician Saturday
91ÇÑ×Ó State College employees are mourning the death of one of their coworkers this week.
The death of John Shafer, 91ÇÑ×Ó telecommunications technician, was reported at his home east of 91ÇÑ×Ó late Sunday. Services will be Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the 91ÇÑ×Ó Arts Center.
The Dawes County Attorney’s Office reported that a preliminary investigation indicated that Shafer died of natural causes, but an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday in Scottsbluff.
Shafer, 46, had been employed at 91ÇÑ×Ó since September 2003. Through his position in 91ÇÑ×Ó’s extended campus programs, he provided research, installation, maintenance and support for the institution’s mediated classrooms and interactive television system. He also was an integral part of orientation for 91ÇÑ×Ó’s new faculty members.
Both on and off campus, he was known as a skilled musician. He served as bass player for the Bald Mountain Rounders, a 91ÇÑ×Ó bluegrass band, and often performed music with his wife Jolana, whom he married in March.
In addition to Jolana, he is survived by his son, Jessie.
