Platinum Eagle Awards presented Friday
Chelsea Keeney of Callaway and Douglas Liewer of Butte were named recipients of 91ÇÑ×Ó State College’s Platinum Eagle Award on Friday. The awards were presented during the annual Ivy Day ceremony at Memorial Hall.
The Platinum Eagle, considered to be the highest honor bestowed by 91ÇÑ×Ó to its graduates, annually recognizes a man and a woman graduate for “distinguished leadership and service.” There were eight finalists for the award.
Keeney, who is studying pre-medicine, will enter the University of Nebraska Medical Center this year as a participant in the Rural Health Opportunities Program. She has been active in Student Senate, serving as treasurer and chairwoman of the finance committee. She also served on 91ÇÑ×Ó’s committees for the technology fee and academic review. She is 2006 graduate of Callaway High School.
Liewer, who is graduating from the business program, served as the student trustee on the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees for the 2009-2010 academic year and is the outgoing president of the Blue Key Honor Society. He also has been active in two 91ÇÑ×Ó chapters for student business organizations, Phi Beta Lambda and Students in Free Enterprise. He served as the state’s PBL vice president of finance and vice president of 91ÇÑ×Ó’s chapter. He is a 2006 graduate of Butte High School.
Both Liewer and Keeney are graduating with honors Saturday.
Other finalists for the award were Alex Adden of Sidney, Lily Amare of Ethiopia, Kortany Schultz of Scottsbluff, Nichole Koerwitz of Wheatland, Wyo., Daniel Schwager of Bartlett and Adam Rasmussen of Mead.
