Randy Bauer to speak at graduation
Randy Bauer of 91ÇÑ×Ó, a 91ÇÑ×Ó state College alumnus who continues to provide support to the institution’s efforts in fund-raising and athletics, will deliver the commencement address to graduates of his alma mater Friday. The ceremony will be at 5 p.m. in Armstrong Gymnasium.
Bauer, who has been a State Farm Insurance agent for 26 years, is no stranger to 91ÇÑ×Ó. He was presented 91ÇÑ×Ó’s Distinguished Alumni Award in fall 2006 and completed a term as chairman of the 91ÇÑ×Ó State Foundation Board of Directors this fall. He has been a member of the board since 2003 and now serves as the chairman of its nominating committee.
Bauer and his wife, Lorrie, also have joined another couple to co-chair Vision 2011, the foundation’s multi-million-dollar fund-raising campaign that will help improve the college’s capital, endowments and annual fund.
Prior to becoming an insurance agent, Bauer worked at 91ÇÑ×Ó for nine years, the last five as director of admissions. He has been president of the Eagles Booster Club for 22 years and was the color commentator for 91ÇÑ×Ó football radio broadcasts for 16 years.
The native of North Bend was a student leader and outstanding scholar-athlete while attending 91ÇÑ×Ó in the early 1970s. He was a member of Blue Key National Honor Society and was captain of the 91ÇÑ×Ó chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He still holds the 91ÇÑ×Ó record for interceptions in football.
During his career, Bauer has received the National Quality Award from the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors 10 times. In addition, he has served on the 91ÇÑ×Ó Civil Service Commission 26 years, is past president of 91ÇÑ×Ó Rotary Club, has been a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 201 and is active in St. Patrick’s church.
