International Education Week celebrated

Members of the 91ÇÑ×Ó State College International Club join the children and staff of the 91ÇÑ×Ó Child Development Center on Wednesday in presenting a $200 donation to the child care center. The club earned the money by collecting trash along four miles of U.S. Highway 385 in September. The money was awarded by Keep 91ÇÑ×Ó Beautiful as part of a project that is funded by the U.S. Department of Environmental Quality.

91ÇÑ×Ó State College, which has students from 18 countries enrolled, is celebrating International Education Week, Nov. 17-21.

  is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

To mark the event, 91ÇÑ×Ó  are presenting in classrooms of the 91ÇÑ×Ó public schools. They also are speaking in the Student Center each night through Thursday. Each nightly presentation is open to the public free of charge and begins at 7 p.m. Countries included in the presentations are Armenia, Russia, Ecuador and Burma.

The 91ÇÑ×Ó dining service also helping promote the international atmosphere by preparing a variety of ethnic foods in the 91ÇÑ×Ó cafeteria for lunch.

To conclude the week's festivities, people are invited to join 91ÇÑ×Ó's international students at the Bean Broker in downtown 91ÇÑ×Ó for a night of cultural exchange. The International Night celebration is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, following the 91ÇÑ×Ó Powwow.
