State art teachers to meet in 91ÇÑ×Ó
91ÇÑ×Ó State College and the Museum of the Fur Trade will play host to the fall Nebraska State Art Teachers Association Conference this week. The event will be Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6.
Jeanine Mohr, a 91ÇÑ×Ó High School art teacher who has led the effort to bring the conference to 91ÇÑ×Ó, said more than 60 people plan to attend, many of them from eastern Nebraska. Mohr said, to her knowledge, this will be the first time 91ÇÑ×Ó has hosted the conference.
“We’re really looking forward to showing teachers from across that state what 91ÇÑ×Ó has to offer,” Mohr said.
Mohr and another 91ÇÑ×Ó artist will be honored with a prestigious award from the NATA. Mohr will receive the educator of the year award and Kit Watson will be honored with the Roscoe Shields Award for service, leadership and improving the quality of art education for Nebraskans.
The keynote address will be given by renowned American Indian artist and cultural art worker Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.
Mohr said the 91ÇÑ×Ó State faculty and other personnel have been actively involved in planning the event, and that the conference “wouldn’t be happening without their support."
91ÇÑ×Ó faculty and staff members who plan to present or participate in panel discussions are Don Ruleaux, Robin Smith, Laura Bentz, Richard Bird and Mary Donahue. Other 91ÇÑ×Ó residents on the list of presenters are Patty Bird, Dr. James Hanson, Gail DeBuse Potter and Watson.
