Attorney general to speak at 91ÇÑ×Ó for Constitution Day
Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning will be the keynote speaker for 91ÇÑ×Ó State College’s observance of Constitution Day. His presentation will be Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Center. It is open to the public free of charge.
In 2002, Bruning was elected the youngest attorney general in Nebraska’s history and ran unopposed for re-election in 2006. Prior to his service as attorney general, Bruning ran a law practice in Omaha and served six years in the Nebraska Legislature. Bruning, a Republican, has announced his intent to run for Chuck Hagel’s U.S. Senate seat which comes up for election in 2008.
A number of other activities to increase student awareness of the United States’ fundamental political principles are scheduled at 91ÇÑ×Ó State for Monday, Sept. 17, the actual date of Constitution Day. They include the distribution of pocket-sized reproductions of the Constitution, a quiz booth, video presentations and other displays.
Bruning’s speech also is the first installment of 91ÇÑ×Ó’s Justice Studies Fall Speakers Series, which is focusing on the Nebraska Criminal and Legal Justice System.
