The curriculum is designed to prepare students to become independent musicians: to be competent and proficient to prepare new music without supervision; to be sensitive musicians always striving for the best sound; to be competitive in auditions, and for performing and/or teaching opportunities.
91ÇÑ×Ó Percussion offers several performing ensemble opportunities percussionists. We offer the Eagle Drumline, a concert percussion ensemble, two wind ensembles, a jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble, and a vocal jazz ensemble.
Prospective Percussion Students
There are several ways to help prepare for you to enter the music program at 91ÇÑ×Ó. The High Plains Honors Band is an excellent opportunity to visit the 91ÇÑ×Ó campus, explore the facilities, meet the faculty and other regional high school musicians in a performance environment. Schedule a campus visit. If you are a high school junior or senior and would like some help selecting audition repertoire, or would like to tour the music facility, you can schedule a visit. If you are currently attending a community college and are interested in pursuing a 4 year degree, you can schedule a visit and audition. 91ÇÑ×Ó has a program for prospective students to visit campus and faculty. Audition Information
An audition is not required for entry into the program but is strongly encouraged. An audition is required to be considered for a scholarship. The audition helps us to assess your current skills and develop a tailored curriculum especially for you.
Suggested audition repertoire includes published music from method books, etude books, or solos. Percussion auditions should include a prepared piece for snare drum at a minimum, and also a short piece or excerpt on xylophone or marimba, and/or drum set. A prepared piece on timpani would be ideal if possible.
