Myring Scores Twice to Lead Gamecocks Past Spartans

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (3-0-2) earned a decisive 4-0 victory over sister school USC Upstate (1-5) Tuesday night (Sept. 10) at Stone Stadium.

The Gamecocks were in control the entire match, despite playing a man-down for the final 70 minutes after a player was sent off with a red card. They out-shot the Spartans 11-7, 7-3 in shots on goal, and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Filip Versterre finished with three saves in goal for South Carolina.

Carolina came out on the attack early, scoring two goals in the span of two minutes, with Harrison Myring tallying both. He got it going in the 19th minute as he scored off a rebound on a shot by Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez. He would do the same in the 21st minute when Sebastian Reventlow-Mourier’s shot bounced off the post and right to the foot of Myring, who buried it home for his fifth goal of the season.

After having a man sent off in the 31st minute, the Gamecocks continued to push the attack, out-shooting Upstate 9-to-2 in the first half.

Even being down a man, the Carolina offense was quick to pounce in the second half. Velazquez-Lopez scored in the 52nd minute on give-and-go pass from Ted Cargill.

The Gamecocks capped off their night with the first goal of the season by Camden Kowalski on a header off assists from Cargill and Ethan Ballek.

The homestand for Carolina continues when they host East Tennessee State Sunday at 7 p.m.
